Experience Luxury at Tugu Hotel and Spa Bali: Discover Purnama Blessings

One of the most captivating aspects of traveling through Bali is undoubtedly its rich culture. The devotion and spirituality that permeate daily life here are truly a gift to witness. Rituals play a crucial role in Balinese culture, drawing many visitors to this island paradise.

Celebrating Purnama in Bali

During our last full moon, or Purnama, in Bali, we journeyed from the lush rice paddies of Ubud to the stunning beaches of Canggu. Purnama is a special day when hundreds of temples across the island host beautiful ceremonies and festivities. Balinese people believe that on this day, the Gods descend to Earth, bestowing their blessings upon us. In honor of this sacred occasion, elaborate offerings of food, fruit, and flowers are made, and rituals using holy water, incense, petals, and rice grains are performed.

A Cultural Retreat at Tugu Hotel Bali

We wanted to spend our full moon honoring our time in Bali with an experience that was not only relaxing but also rich in culture. After enjoying a delightful Sunday brunch at Ji Restaurant in Canggu, we explored Tugu Hotel next door, where we were captivated by the stunning Indonesian art and antiques. The hotel beautifully weaves history and culture into its offerings, making it the perfect spa destination for our Purnama celebration.

Tugu Hotel Bali is a privately owned luxury art hotel inspired by Anhar Setjadibrata’s passion for Indonesian history. As the founder of Tugu Hotels, he has curated an impressive collection of fine Indonesian art and cultural antiquities throughout the hotel. Guests can immerse themselves in historical experiences, from lavish feasts of ancient kingdoms to intimate village dinners.

The Purnama Massage Experience

As spa enthusiasts, we love to explore the unique styles of massage in every country we visit. For our Purnama massage, we enjoyed a frangipani-infused coconut oil reminiscent of plumerias in Hawaii. The massage began with long, soft strokes that gradually built momentum into strong, rotating circles across my body, mirroring the energy of the full moon. My sore muscles rejoiced under the skilled hands of the therapists, and I eventually drifted off to sleep until it was time to turn over for an incredible head and face massage.

After our rejuvenating treatment, our therapists prepared a flower-filled bath for us in a beautiful outdoor tub. According to Balinese belief, bathing in water infused with fragrant frangipani petals under the full moon washes away impurities. We felt ultra-relaxed and could have stayed in the bath for hours.

A Meaningful Blessing Ceremony

To conclude our Purnama spa day, we participated in a blessing ceremony using blessed water from Batu Bolong Temple. This was one of our favorite moments, allowing us to engage with an essential aspect of Balinese culture.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the entire team at Tugu Hotel Bali for providing such an unforgettable experience. We cannot wait to return on our next visit to this enchanting island!Much love, Kahala and Patrick

Exceptional Massage

As soon as my therapist began the massage, I felt something extraordinary. Her calm presence was perfectly attuned to my energy. She took her time locating my tight spots and skillfully eased into them, methodically relieving my back of any knots. Her unique massage style flowed gracefully along my back, applying just the right amount of pressure to dissolve tension. Once she reached my legs, she transitioned to an acupressure technique that was both heavenly and healing. I can confidently say this experience surpassed all others I’ve had.

Pampering Treatments

Following our massage, we indulged in a traditional Indonesian Lulur exfoliation scrub made from turmeric, coriander, red rice, evgania, and essential oils. This was complemented by a clay body mask designed to tone and moisturize our skin—truly magical pampering after two months on the road. My skin felt completely rejuvenated.

Romantic Flower Bath

While we enjoyed our scrub and clay mask, our therapists prepared a hot bath filled with flower petals and served us hot tea. Once everything was set, they provided privacy so we could shower off and enjoy a romantic soak together. It was an unforgettable experience—cloud nine encapsulated.

Dining at Karsa Kafe

After our treatments, we dined at Karsa Kafe, where unique private tables overlook expansive koi ponds. We savored traditional Balinese dishes while taking in the breathtaking scenery—an ideal conclusion to our one-of-a-kind spa day.

Final Thoughts

We cannot recommend Karsa Spa enough for anyone visiting Ubud. If you seek healing bodywork, massage, or reiki, look no further. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the entire staff for their hospitality and generosity—we eagerly anticipate our next visit.

Much love, Kahala and Patrick
