Mano Beach House: Experience Stunning Sea and Balinese Sunsets

As our last evening in Canggu approached, we eagerly anticipated a sunset dinner at Mano Beach House, a newly revamped restaurant nestled in Petitenget. Throughout our travels in Bali, we noticed that many establishments were run by expats. This observation resonated with us deeply, especially considering our backgrounds from islands and cultures that have often been exploited for profit.

A Locally Owned Gem

We were pleasantly surprised to discover that Mano Beach House is locally owned and fully staffed by community members. The establishment, which has been open for 13 years, recently rebranded just four months ago. The new design showcases a Balinese, bohemian vibe that instantly made us feel at home.

Dining by the Beach

Mano Beach House offers a unique dining experience right on the beach of Petitenget. Their menu features modern international cuisine paired with a signature cocktail list, perfect for enjoying while lounging by the pool and watching the sun set. The restaurant prioritizes sustainability, sourcing local ingredients and even crafting their own bamboo straws on-site. Their homemade offerings include coconut yogurt, ricotta cheese, and fermented vegetables.

On Wednesdays and weekends, you can enjoy a captivating sunset soundtrack performed by local DJs and musicians, enhancing the overall experience.

A Conversation with Dewa Wahyubintara

During our visit, we had the pleasure of speaking with the general manager, Dewa Wahyubintara, whose inspiring life story left a lasting impression on us. Hailing from Negara, a village in west Bali, Dewa broke through societal barriers to pursue his dreams. He shared how his family’s different perspectives shaped his journey and how connecting with people from diverse cultures broadened his outlook on life.

After earning a degree in hotel management, Dewa spent ten years at a chain hotel before deciding to join Mano Beach House. This decision allowed him to cultivate his passion for local culture and cuisine. He also launched another venture called Street Boi, specializing in Asian-inspired steam buns.

Dewa credits meditation for his newfound calmness and emphasizes the importance of starting each workday with clarity. The entire team at Mano takes three deep breaths together before beginning their day—a practice that fosters a positive work environment.

Embracing Future Adventures

Looking ahead, Dewa aspires to explore street culture globally, with plans to visit Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, and eventually the US. Over a glass of prosecco, we found common ground with Dewa's experiences and admired his dedication to his community. When we asked for advice for aspiring entrepreneurs, he simply said, “Be confident. Confidence is everything.”

Visit Mano Beach House

If you find yourself in the Seminyak/Canggu area, make sure to stop by Mano Beach House for an unforgettable dining experience that supports the local Balinese community.

Much love, Patrick and Kahala
