Born from resilience and creativity during the early days of COVID, Comedor started as a humble Friday lunch pop-up at Creekside Farm Stand. Three years later, thanks to enthusiastic community support, it has blossomed into a permanent restaurant that's capturing the hearts—and appetites—of locals and visitors alike.

Meet the Founders: Rose and Rene

At the core of Comedor are Rose Robertson and Rene Medina, a dynamic duo whose passion for sustainability, local food systems, and cultural authenticity shines through every dish. Rose, a Grass Valley native, brings nearly 20 years of biodynamic farming experience, cultivating ingredients that have graced menus at top Bay Area restaurants. Rene, born and raised in Colombia, is a self-taught chef and visual artist whose culinary creations beautifully blend traditional Colombian recipes with contemporary California flair, deeply inspired by his mother’s kitchen.

Our Review: Signature Dishes to Savor

When we visited Comedor, we found the menu bursting with vibrant flavors and irresistible aromas, making each meal an unforgettable experience. The standout dish that we simply couldn't get enough of was the Arepa Plate. These golden, slightly crisp cornmeal cakes generously filled with gooey mozzarella cheese provided the perfect balance of crunchy exterior and soft, savory interior—truly a must-try.

We especially enjoyed upgrading our meals with Comedor’s signature pork belly. It was incredibly tender, with a melt-in-your-mouth texture, expertly prepared to achieve rich, savory perfection. The Chicken Adobo also captured our attention, with its harmonious balance of sweet and tangy flavors from creamy coconut milk and savory tamari sauce. The succulent chicken, exceptionally tender, was perfectly complemented by beautifully braised collard greens, creating a delicious balance of textures and flavors.

Another favorite was Comedor’s house-made Colombian-style Chorizo Plate. It offered a flavorful, mild spice profile that enhanced every bite, clearly demonstrating the authentic care put into its creation. Everything we tasted at Comedor was vibrant, flavorful, and memorable—each dish carefully crafted and presented beautifully, making the meal as visually appealing as it was delicious.

Committed to inclusivity, Comedor proudly offers delicious vegan and vegetarian options, carefully designed to match the vibrancy and depth of their meat-based dishes.
